Wagner’s first and last successes – RIENZI and PARSIFAL - in iconic productions at the Deutsche Oper; an acclaimed MEISTERSINGER with veteran great Wagnerians joining Wolfgang Koch as Hans Sachs, and a new BETROTHAL IN A MONASTERY, Prokofiev’s lyrical comic opera with Violeta Urmana, both at the reopened Staatsoper unter den Linden under Daniel Barenboim. As if that is not enough, Anna Netrebko sings Verdi arias in the Philharmonie with Barenboim and the Staatskapelle; and at the Komische Oper, Harry Kupfer directs Handels’s PORO, RE D’ITALIE. Of course we also view the art and architecture of Berlin with the city’s best guide Tom Abbott.
