CULTURAL TOURS TO CENTRAL EUROPE AND BEYOND

BERLIN FESTTAGE
Staatsoper Unter den Linden – Deutsche Oper
– Komische Oper – Philharmonie
29 March – 3 April 2018

Daniel Barenboin started the Easter Festtage with the Berlin Staatsoper in 2006. The Staatsoper on Unter den Linden reopens this autumn after a prolonged renovation and the traditional performance of PARSIFAL (with Andreas Schager, René Pape and Nina Stemme) is joined by a new production of FALSTAFF (with Michael Volle) both conducted by Daniel Barenboim. We also have a piano duet recital by Marta Argerich and Daniel Barenboim (Wagner and Debussy) at the Philharmonie, the iconic 1960s concert hall built by Hans Scharoun in West Berlin. And we go to the Deutsche Oper for a rare performance of EW Korngold’s 1927 masterpiece DAS WUNDER DER HELIANE in a new production by Christoph Loy. All with English surtitles.

And to complete our attendance at all the main Berlin opera houses we have tickets for the Komische Oper for Stefan Herheim’s new production – 50 years after Walter Felsenstein’s famous version - Offenbach’s BLAUBART with Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke (Glyndebourne and Covent garden) in the main role.

We have rooms at our favourite Berlin hotel, within easy walking distance of the Staatsoper and walks and talks by our favourite guide Tom Abbott.

Cost : £1980 includes return scheduled flights, transfers, 5 nights bed and buffet breakfast in twin-bedded room with private facilities at the 4* Hotel Albrechtshof, good tickets for all operas and concert. One dinner and three lunches. Single supplement £ 150. Deposit £ 400 pp.
Without flights £1840.
